His Beatitude Tikhon

Archbishop of Washington

Metropolitan of All America and Canada

Archpriest Alessandro Margheritino

Fr. Alessandro Margheritino was born and raised in Palermo, Italy, where he grew up and was educated. He attended a linguistic lyceum where he studied Italian, English, and French literature for five years. He later studied at the University of Palermo, where he graduated with a bachelor’s in International Relations and Political Science.

Raised in a Roman Catholic family, Fr. Alessandro was formally received into the Orthodox Church at the age of 18, even though he started participating in the life of an Orthodox parish in Palermo at the age of 12.

While still in school, he worked in the tourism industry for the airport of Milan first and then as a tour guide in Sicily. Fr. Alessandro traveled to different countries from an early age and spent many of his summers in the United States.

In 2007 he met his future wife, Anna, who was born and raised in Moscow, Russia. Her family relocated to Ohio in 2000, where Anna later studied Advertisement and Graphic Design in Columbus, OH. She has many years of experience as an iconographer and currently works as the Graphic Designer for St. Vladimir’s Seminary.

Before going to seminary, Fr. Alessandro and his wife were active members of St. Gregory of Nyssa Orthodox Church in Columbus, OH. During those years, Fr. Alessandro worked in banking. In 2011, they moved to New York, where he began the Master of Divinity program at St. Vladimir's. As a seminarian, he was involved in various student activities serving as Student Council President, Community Service Assistant, and representative to the Orthodox Inter-Seminary Movement.

While at seminary, he had the opportunity to serve on OCMC and IOCC teams: Fr. Alessandro and Anna traveled together to Albania in 2012, and in 2013 he traveled to Turkana (Kenya) for a catechetical mission trip. In January 2014, he traveled to New Orleans with the IOCC to work with Habitat for Humanity.

Fr. Alessandro was ordained to the Holy Diaconate by His Beatitude Metropolitan Tikhon on the Feast of the Holy Three Hierarchs (January 30) and to the Holy Priesthood on the Feast of the Ascension (May 29, 2014).

In 2014, Fr. Alessandro was assigned as the priest of St Innocent Orthodox Church in Olmsted Falls, OH, just outside Cleveland, where he served until May 2021, when the Holy Synod of Bishops appointed him Secretary of the Orthodox Church in America.

While in Ohio, Fr. Alessandro also served as president of the Greater Cleveland Council of Orthodox Clergy, as spiritual advisor for ZOE for Life!, and as a member of the Eastern Churches Seminar board.

He is working toward a Doctor of Ministry degree at St. Vladimir’s.

Metropolitan Tikhon appointed Fr. Alessandro to our parish in August 2022.
